Jesus Land....holy crap! (is that blasphemous?)

As I am reading Jesus Land, in complete avoidance of all of my other work because it is so good, I am in complete SHOCK. I have read plenty of memoirs, but I found it very hard to get a grip on Julia's family's warped sense of "Christian Values". Poor David is still holding out for that hope that he can still be part of a family and it is breaking my heart! Even when he finds out that his brother was sexually abusing his sister, despite all he has personally gone through, David is supportive and caring and does not renounce his relationship to Julia. Despite the many times Julia pretended that she was not associated with David, told people he wasn't her real brother, turned the other cheek while he was mocked and ridiculed, he still loves her unconditionally. I just had to put the book down to blog this and finish my memoir draft... then maybe I will find time for another chapter or two before bed!!!
