I agree with many of the other posts about the Scheeres novel; it's a great read! I'm currently into Ch. 4, and what strikes me at this point is the extreme detail of Julia and David's experiences . More importantly, I'm thinking about how this book ties into Prof. Nelson's class on Multicultural Lit, which I'm also taking this semester. He has assigned Passing, which is a short novel about African American "passage" into the white race. This passage occurs when a person of color adopts white ideals and tries to "pass".... Right now, I'm making a lot of connections between the themes in that book and David's struggle at Harrison in Jesus Land.
